Saving Account

Who can open a Savings Bank Account

  1. Any person competent to contract and satisfactorily introduced to the Bank may open an account in his/her own name. He/She may not open more than one such account.
  2. Accounts may be opened in the names of two or more persons and may be made payable to:
    • Any one or more of them
    • Any one or more of the survivors
    • Either or anyone or more of them or the survivors jointly
    • Former or survivor / Latter or survivor
  3. A savings bank account may be opened in the single name of a minor operated by natural/legal guardian.
  4. Accounts may be opened in the name of clubs, societies, provident funds and trusts subject to RBI norms.
  5. Accounts may be opened in the name of Government Departments for grants/subsidies as per RBI directives.

How to open a Savings Bank Account

  1. Application must be made in prescribed account opening form in person.
  2. Illiterate depositors must affix thumb impression in presence of bank officer.
  3. No cheque book facility for illiterate depositors.
  4. Two passport size photographs required.
  5. Account must be introduced by an existing KYC-compliant account holder.

Current Account

Who can open a Current Account

  1. Individuals, sole proprietors, partnership firms, companies, HUF, trusts, clubs, societies.
  2. Accounts can be operated singly or jointly as per mandate.

How to open a Current Account

  1. Account opening form to be filled in person.
  2. All signatories must sign declaration accepting rules.
  3. Passport size photographs mandatory.
  4. Introduction by existing account holder (minimum 6 months old).

Term Deposit Account

Opening of Term Deposit Accounts

Existing and new customers may open term deposit accounts subject to KYC norms and RBI guidelines.

Period and Minimum Amount

  • Minimum period: 7 days
  • Minimum amount: Rs. 1000/-
  • Maximum period: 120 months (extendable to 20 years in special cases)

Operational Instructions

Accounts can be opened with Either or Survivor, Jointly, Former or Survivor instructions.

Recurring Deposit Account

Recurring Deposit Account can be opened with monthly installments over 12 to 120 months.

  • Minimum monthly installment: Rs. 100/-
  • Maximum period: 10 years
  • Interest rate same as Term Deposit for respective period

xxii) Latest Income Tax Return filed in name of proprietor, provided the name of firm shall reflect on the ITR-4 form
xxiii) Acknowledgment of ITR-4 return may be accepted provided the name of the firm is mentioned
xxiv) Latest Sales Tax Returns filed in name of firm (CST / VAT / Service Tax / Professional Tax) duly acknowledged
xxv) TAN Allotment Letter in name of firm only (not in name of proprietor). Printout of online TAN registration details shall also be accepted
xxvi) Latest available Income Tax / Wealth Tax Assessment order along with PAN confirmation printout
xxvii) Latest property tax / water tax / utility bill or receipt in name of firm issued by local authority or service provider (telephone bill must be for landline connection)
xxviii) Certificate issued by a Chartered Accountant confirming existence of the firm
  • Need to be validated from the Chartered Accountants directory.
  • To be accompanied by a site visit conducted by permanent bank staff.

  • Engineer / BDPO (Block Development & Panchayat Officer) / DDPO (District Development & Panchayat Officer).
  • Letter of Intent signed by Executive Engineer / SDO / BDPO / DDPO to open an account with The Shimla Urban Cooperative Bank Ltd., Shimla.
  • The immediate officer (reporting authority) should issue a letter confirming that the official is authorized to open and operate the account.
